Step 0 β€” Check Your Firestick Model Before Anything Else

Amazon launched a new Linux-based operating system called Vega OS in October 2025, starting with the Fire TV Stick 4K Select. Vega OS devices cannot sideload apps at all β€” no method will work, not Downloader, not ADB, not Apps2Fire. This is a hardware and software limitation that cannot be bypassed.

TiviMate requires sideloading. If your Firestick runs Vega OS, TiviMate cannot be installed. Full stop.

TiviMate cannot be installed. Use IPTV Smarters Pro from the Amazon App Store instead β€” it covers all the core IPTV functionality without sideloading.
βœ“ Fire OS 7 or 8
Your device fully supports TiviMate. Continue with the steps below.

Step 1 β€” Prepare Your Firestick

  1. Enable unknown sources for Downloader Allow the Downloader app to install third-party APKs on your Firestick.
    πŸ’‘ Tip
On older Fire OS, Developer Options may be hidden β€” go to My Fire TV β†’ About and press the centre button 7 times rapidly to unlock it.
  2. Install Downloader from the Amazon App Store Search Downloader, select the AFTVnews app (orange icon), and install.
  3. Check storage before downloading You need at least 500 MB free for the install and EPG cache.

Step 2 β€” Download and Install TiviMate

  1. Open Downloader and enter the URL Type the address below β€” download version 4.7 or later.
  2. Wait for the download The APK is under 40 MB β€” takes 30 to 60 seconds on a normal connection.
  3. Select Install when prompted
    ⚠ Security warning
A security warning is normal β€” select Install anyway. TiviMate is safe; Firestick warns about every non-Amazon-store APK.
  4. Select Done, not Open β€” then delete the APK Opening directly from Downloader causes display issues on some Firestick models. Delete the APK file in Downloader after install to free storage.
  5. Launch TiviMate from your apps list
    βœ“ Ready
First launch goes directly to the Add Playlist screen.

Step 3 β€” Add Your IPTV Playlist

On first launch TiviMate goes straight to the Add Playlist screen. You need either an M3U URL or Xtream Codes credentials from your provider's welcome email.

Method 1 Β· M3U URL

M3U playlist

  1. Select M3U playlist
  2. Paste the URL from your welcome email
  3. Give it a name
  4. Tap Add
Playlist URL β†’ http://server.com:port/get.php?...
βœ“ First load
10 to 60 seconds while TiviMate imports Live TV, Movies and Series.
Method 2 Β· Xtream Codes

Xtream Codes login

  1. Select Xtream Codes
  2. Enter the three credentials below
  3. Tap Add
Server URL β†’ http://server.com:8080 Username β†’ your_username Password β†’ your_password
πŸ’‘ Tip
Xtream Codes usually gives better EPG and catch-up than a plain M3U URL.

Firestick-Specific Performance Tips

This is where most TiviMate guides stop β€” they cover installation and leave you to figure out the rest. These are the issues that actually affect Firestick users daily.

πŸ›‘

Force stop background apps

Especially important on 1 GB RAM models. Settings β†’ Applications β†’ Manage Installed Applications β†’ Force Stop.

🎬

Disable catch-up if unused

Frees RAM on lower-spec devices. TiviMate Settings β†’ Player β†’ disable Background Playback.

πŸ”„

Refresh playlist daily, not hourly

TiviMate Settings β†’ Playlists β†’ Update Interval β†’ Every 24 Hours. Reduces load on the Firestick.

πŸ—‘

Clear cache every 4–6 weeks

EPG fills storage aggressively on 8 GB devices. Device Settings β†’ Applications β†’ TiviMate β†’ Clear Cache.

If you have a Firestick Lite or older 1 GB RAM model

The Firestick Lite and early Firestick models only have 1 GB of RAM. TiviMate runs on them, but background apps eat into that RAM and cause sluggishness and buffering that has nothing to do with your internet connection. Before opening TiviMate, force stop other apps every time.

The VPN Issue Nobody Mentions

If you use a VPN alongside TiviMate on Firestick, there is a known compatibility problem worth understanding before you encounter it. Certain VPN apps β€” particularly those that route all traffic by default β€” cause TiviMate channels to fail to load, often showing an error 404. The streams play perfectly with the VPN off and fail with it on.

This is not a TiviMate bug and it is not your provider going down. It is a routing conflict between the VPN and the IPTV server.

πŸ›  The fix β€” split tunnelling
Use split tunnelling in your VPN app if it supports it β€” exclude TiviMate from the VPN tunnel so IPTV traffic routes directly while your other traffic stays protected. Most premium VPNs like ExpressVPN and NordVPN support this. If your VPN does not, temporarily disable it while watching IPTV.

For VPN recommendations that work correctly with TiviMate and IPTV see our best VPN for IPTV guide.

Back Up Your TiviMate Setup β€” Saves Hours if You Reinstall

This feature exists in TiviMate Premium and almost no guide mentions it. Once your channels, groups, favourites and settings are configured exactly how you want them, create a backup. If you ever need to factory reset your Firestick, switch to a new device, or reinstall TiviMate after an update problem, you can restore your entire setup in seconds rather than reconfiguring everything from scratch.

Save the backup file to your Firestick or export it somewhere accessible. Restore it on any new device with the same TiviMate Premium account.
