Diagnose Your Problem First

Three quick questions decide whether you actually need to troubleshoot TiviMate β€” or whether the fix lives somewhere else entirely.

πŸ“Ί

Can you see any channels at all?

No β†’ check subscription first, an expired plan is cause #1. Yes β†’ channels load but something else is wrong.

Does the stream play in another app?

No β†’ provider issue, not TiviMate, no fix will help. Yes β†’ TiviMate-specific, fixes below resolve it.

Test in IPTV Smarters or VLC

Step 0 β€” Check These Before Anything Else

Most troubleshooting guides send you straight to clearing cache and reinstalling. Do these three things first β€” they fix the majority of TiviMate problems in under two minutes.

  1. Confirm your subscription is active An expired subscription produces the exact same symptoms as a broken app β€” channels fail, errors appear, streams won't play. This is cause #1 and most guides never mention it first.
    ⚠ Most common
Renewing an expired plan fixes everything instantly. Check the welcome email or your provider dashboard before touching any TiviMate setting.
  2. Refresh your playlist Pulls a fresh channel list and re-authenticates with the provider β€” fixes most "no channels" and parser errors.
  3. Clear the TiviMate cache Clears corrupted EPG and stream data without deleting your playlists or settings.

Error Code Reference β€” Every TiviMate Error Explained

The five errors below cover almost every coded failure you will ever see in TiviMate. Find your error, follow the fixes in order.

HttpDataSourceException

Cannot retrieve stream data

Cause: ISP throttling or server issue.

  1. Check subscription + refresh playlist
  2. Clear cache + restart device
  3. Restart your router
  4. Change User-Agent to IPTV Smarters or VLC
  5. Use a VPN if ISP is throttling
Error 401

Authentication failed

Cause: wrong credentials or expired subscription.

  1. Check subscription is active
  2. Delete and re-add playlist using copy-pasted credentials
  3. Change User-Agent
  4. Contact your provider
πŸ’‘ Tip
Never type credentials manually β€” always copy-paste from the welcome email.
Error 458

HTTP transaction interrupted

Cause: the server stopped sending the stream β€” provider-side.

  1. Try a different channel
  2. Try a lower-bitrate version of the same channel
  3. Wait 10–15 minutes
  4. Clear cache + refresh playlist
Error 521

Cannot connect to server

Cause: wrong URL, server down, or expired subscription.

  1. Confirm subscription is active
  2. Verify server URL includes port β€” e.g. http://server.com:8080
  3. Check provider maintenance announcements
  4. Try Ethernet instead of WiFi
Parser Exception

Playlist format not recognised

Cause: corrupted playlist or wrong URL format.

  1. Switch from M3U to Xtream Codes
  2. Paste the M3U URL in a browser to verify it works
  3. Contact provider for a fresh link

TiviMate Buffering Constantly

Buffering is the most common complaint and the most misdiagnosed. Most guides immediately suggest a VPN. A VPN helps with ISP throttling specifically β€” but there are four other causes that are more common and faster to fix.

Fix 1 Β· Most underrated

Change User-Agent

Some providers throttle TiviMate connections specifically by detecting the default User-Agent. Changing it bypasses this without any VPN.

Fix 2

Switch to hardware decoder

Hardware decoding offloads work to the GPU and is far more efficient on Firestick and budget Android boxes.

Fix 3

Use external player for problem streams

Some channels stream in formats that VLC or MX Player handle better than TiviMate's built-in player.

Fix 4 Β· Firestick

Force-stop background apps

1GB-RAM Firesticks run out of memory fast. Force-stop unused apps to free RAM for TiviMate.

πŸ’‘ Fix 5 β€” Last resort
Use a VPN only if all of the above have not worked. A VPN specifically helps with ISP throttling β€” see our best VPN for IPTV guide for split-tunnelling setup.

Black Screen β€” Audio Plays But No Picture

This specific problem is almost never covered in TiviMate guides. If you can hear the audio but the screen is black, this is a video decoder conflict β€” not a network or provider issue.

  1. Switch decoder Hardware ↔ Software Toggle between Hardware and Software decoding. One of the two will fix the codec conflict.
  2. Try an external player Long-press the channel and open it directly in VLC. VLC handles edge-case codecs that TiviMate's bundled player rejects.
    βœ“ If VLC works
Set VLC as your default external player so problem channels open automatically.
  3. Update TiviMate to the latest version Old TiviMate builds drop codec support for some streams when providers re-encode their backend.

TiviMate EPG Not Showing

If your TV guide shows "No Information" on every channel, the fix is almost always one of these four things.

Cause 1

No EPG source URL configured

M3U playlists need a separate EPG URL. Xtream Codes pulls EPG automatically.

πŸ’‘ Free fallback
Use epg.best as a free EPG source if your provider does not supply one.
Cause 2

EPG needs a manual refresh

EPG data has expired or never finished its first download.

Cause 3

Corrupted EPG cache

Clear the existing EPG data and re-download from scratch.

Cause 4 Β· Common mistake

M3U link pasted in EPG field

The EPG source and the M3U playlist are two different URLs from your provider β€” they are not interchangeable.

TiviMate VOD Not Working

VOD β€” on-demand movies and series β€” failing while live TV works fine is a specific issue that almost no guide covers properly.

VOD in TiviMate uses a separate server connection from live TV channels. Your provider needs to include VOD content in your subscription plan, and TiviMate needs to fetch it separately from your channel list. The two most common causes:

Your provider does not include VOD in your plan. Some cheaper IPTV subscriptions include live TV only. Check your provider's plan details β€” if VOD is not in your package, no TiviMate setting will add it.

Your VOD list needs refreshing. If VOD worked before and stopped, update your playlist. Xtream Codes connections re-fetch the full VOD library on update.

VOD streams use different server ports. If refreshing does not fix it, your provider may have changed their VOD server address. Contact them directly β€” this is a provider-side change that cannot be fixed in TiviMate.

TiviMate Crashes or Freezes on Launch

App crashes are almost always storage or cache related β€” not a TiviMate bug. Work through these four steps in order.

⚠ Before uninstalling
If you have TiviMate Premium, create a backup first: Settings β†’ Backup and Restore β†’ Create Backup. Without this you lose all playlists, EPG sources and channel order.
  1. Clear cache β€” not data Cache clear keeps your settings. Data clear wipes everything.
  2. Free up device storage TiviMate needs at least 500MB free to launch and load EPG.
  3. Update TiviMate Reinstall the latest APK from tivimate.com β€” old builds crash on newer Fire OS versions.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall Last resort. Restore your Premium backup afterwards to recover playlists and channel layouts.

Is It TiviMate or Your Provider?

The single most useful question before any troubleshooting β€” open IPTV Smarters Pro or VLC on the same device and add the same credentials. If the streams work there and not in TiviMate, the problem is TiviMate-specific and the fixes above will resolve it. If the streams fail everywhere, the problem is your provider or your subscription β€” no TiviMate fix will help.
