Before You Start β€” What You Need to Know

Four requirements that apply to every device before screen mirroring will work.

πŸ“Ά

Same WiFi network required

Both devices must be on the same WiFi network and same band (2.4GHz or 5GHz β€” not mixed).

πŸ“

Stay within 30 feet

Screen mirroring uses a direct wireless connection. Keep the device within 30 feet of the Firestick.

▢️

Enable mirroring on Firestick first

The Firestick must be in mirroring mode before your device can find it.

🍏

iPhone and Mac need an extra app

Android and Windows mirror natively. Apple devices need the free AirScreen app on Firestick.

Screen Mirroring vs Casting β€” What Is the Difference?

These two terms are often used interchangeably but they work differently and the distinction matters for how you use them.

Screen MirroringCasting
What it doesDuplicates your entire device screen on the TVSends a specific video or app directly to the TV
Phone while streamingPhone stays occupied showing the same screenPhone is free β€” you can use it for other things
Battery useHigher β€” phone screen stays onLower β€” phone can lock while casting
Best forPhotos, apps, games, anything on your screenWatching specific videos from YouTube, Netflix etc.

For simply watching a video from YouTube or Netflix on your TV, casting from within the app is better than full screen mirroring because your phone stays free. For showing someone photos, demoing an app, or gaming on the big screen, full mirroring is what you want.

Troubleshooting β€” When Screen Mirroring Is Not Working

Firestick not appearing in device list
Both devices must be on the same WiFi and same band. The Display Mirroring waiting screen must be showing on TV. Try disabling and re-enabling mirroring mode.
Mirroring laggy or dropping frames
Move closer to the router. Switch both devices to the 5GHz band. Close background apps on your phone.
iPhone not finding Firestick
AirScreen must be actively open and running on the Firestick β€” not just installed. Go back to the Firestick and confirm AirScreen is showing its ready screen.
Windows cannot find Firestick
Confirm Firestick waiting screen is visible. Check that your PC supports Miracast: Settings β†’ System β†’ Display β†’ Connect to a wireless display.
Some content shows black screen on TV
Netflix and Prime Video block screen mirroring via HDCP copy protection. This cannot be bypassed. Use the Firestick's own apps to watch those services directly.
