Before You Start β What You Need to Know
Four requirements that apply to every device before screen mirroring will work.
Same WiFi network required
Both devices must be on the same WiFi network and same band (2.4GHz or 5GHz β not mixed).
Stay within 30 feet
Screen mirroring uses a direct wireless connection. Keep the device within 30 feet of the Firestick.
Enable mirroring on Firestick first
The Firestick must be in mirroring mode before your device can find it.
iPhone and Mac need an extra app
Android and Windows mirror natively. Apple devices need the free AirScreen app on Firestick.
Step 1 β Enable Display Mirroring on Your Firestick
This step is the same regardless of which device you are mirroring from. Do this first before touching your phone or computer.
Remote shortcut
- Press and hold Home on the Firestick remote for 2 seconds.
- Menu appears β select Mirroring.
- Firestick shows the waiting screen β ready for connection.
Via Settings menu
- Go to Settings from the Firestick home screen.
- Select Display and Sounds.

Screen Mirroring vs Casting β What Is the Difference?
These two terms are often used interchangeably but they work differently and the distinction matters for how you use them.
| Screen Mirroring | Casting | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Duplicates your entire device screen on the TV | Sends a specific video or app directly to the TV |
| Phone while streaming | Phone stays occupied showing the same screen | Phone is free β you can use it for other things |
| Battery use | Higher β phone screen stays on | Lower β phone can lock while casting |
| Best for | Photos, apps, games, anything on your screen | Watching specific videos from YouTube, Netflix etc. |
For simply watching a video from YouTube or Netflix on your TV, casting from within the app is better than full screen mirroring because your phone stays free. For showing someone photos, demoing an app, or gaming on the big screen, full mirroring is what you want.
